ISLAMABAD: Launching ceremony of a fiction on ‘child killing’ written by eminent writer Muhammad Hameed Shahid was held here on Tuesday at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). It specially deliberated upon the recent cold-blooded killing of children in a blast in Peshawar. The writer through his Urdu literature writing strongly condemned the incident and said it speaks highly of the brutal mind-set of a section of people. The launching ceremony, arranged by the university’s Urdu Department was presided over by the vice chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui. The writer compared the new trends of fiction with old revolutionary writing style. He said critical and creative elements of fiction leave great impact on human-thoughts and social life of the people. The fiction, he said directly deals with emerging trends in the society. Hameed, a writer of many books on ‘Urdu adab’ further said that the fiction having its own language and dimensions expose truth and realities of life. Fiction, he added has received immense importance in the 20th century due to its philosophical way of approach towards various issues, facing people today. In his address, Dr Shahid Siddiqui reiterated his commitment to develop the AIOU’s campus as a centre of literary, cultural and social activities. A series of activities have been arranged in the recent months to introduce literary and research-based knowledge for the benefit general public. The AIOU was actively engaged in strengthening its collaboration and linkages with academic institutions home and abroad to take benefit of each other experience and knowledge in field of research and literature.
